Two Methods for Creative Problem Solving -

BRAINSTORMING

developed by Alex Osborn

The Rules for Brainstorming

1. defer judgement (criticism comes later)

2. free-wheel (hang loose, don't get caught up)

3. tag-on (change someone else's idea by modifying it)

4. go for quantity (quality is judged best with a lot of ideas to choose from)

SYNECTICS

developed by William Gordon

The Four Paths to Creative Behavior

1. detachment and involvement (getting outside the problem as well as inside the problem)

2. deferment (having consideration and tolerance for all manner of input)

3. speculation (having fantasies, posing questions, making suppositions)

4. object autonomy (allowing the product being sought to become the process being experienced)
